Philip Shepherd is a commercial barrister specialising in commercial litigation and arbitration often involving an International element. His practice focuses on private international law, particularly cases involving conflicts of laws, international jurisdiction disputes and cases involving the application of foreign laws.
He has recently been in the House of Lords in President of the State of Equatorial Guinea -v- Logo Ltd. 2007 AER 372 that will be the leading case on the justiciability and enforceability of foreign public and penal laws outside the territory of a foreign sovereign state and in Islamic Republic of Iran v Barakat Gallery 2008 1 AER 1177.
Philip was counsel in what is now the leading case on the confidentiality of arbitration, Emmott v Michael Wilson and Partners 2008 AER 162.
For many years Philip has been recognised as one of the leading Aviation and Travel experts and leads the Aviation and Travel Group at XXIV Old Buildings. He acts as counsel and arbitrator in commercial arbitrations and has extensive experience in domestic and International arbitration. He is also an accredited mediator.
