Erin enjoys both the advocacy and advisory aspects of international practice at XXIV Old Buildings. Since joining, she has advised on a range of matters involving contracts, trusts and probate, directors’ duties, restitutionary claims and professional negligence. She has also appeared in court on applications ranging from probate disputes to insolvency hearings.
A regular team player on large scale international disputes, Erin has most notably been involved in acting for the provisional liquidator of BVI and Congolese companies which were alleged to be holding Congolese state assets and against whom the judgment creditor sought to enforce the judgment (Kensington v Congo [2005] EWHC 2684 (Comm)).
She has recently returned from secondment with a major London firm advising on contentious trusts and succession.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Erin was a solicitor in the corporate department of leading international law firm, Herbert Smith which gave her excellent experience in company law, corporate structures, issues surrounding directors’ duties, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and commercial contracts. She worked on a range of transactions, from international deals to small private acquisitions. This transactional experience gives her a valuable insight into the type of contentious issues which may arise from such transactions and how these can be resolved.
She also undertook a judicial assistantship in the Chancery Division of the High Court, assisting Mr Justice Neuberger (now Lord Neuberger) and Mr Justice David Richards. Not only did this expose her to a wide range of issues, but it also provided her with an excellent opportunity to witness different styles of advocacy.
