Business recovery and insolvency has long been one of the main specialist areas of practice in XXIV Old Buildings. Over the last decade, members have been involved in nearly every major UK corporate insolvency, including BCCI, Maxwell, Barings, British and Commonwealth Holdings and Barlow Clowes. In addition, our members include the current Standing Counsel to the DTI on Insolvency Matters and members or former members of the Treasury Panel. Such members have experience in dealing with winding up petitions in the public interest and acting for the Official Receiver. Members are used to dealing with technical aspects of insolvency law and the types of problems involved in large cross-border insolvencies.
Members are experienced in all aspects of business restructuring and insolvency: administrations, individual and corporate voluntary arrangements, personal bankruptcy, corporate liquidations and insolvent partnerships. Members have a wealth of experience in dealing with directors’ disqualification proceedings with some members having seen “both sides of the fence”.
Our expertise has been utilised in foreign jurisdictions. Members have assisted in drafting insolvency legislation in the BVI. Members have advised on and appeared in insolvency cases in the BVI, Cayman, Isle of Man.
